Meet Rebecca Micich - your digital personal trainer
My mother would describe me as an active child who always had more energy than I knew what to do with. At the age of 16, I was the youngest person ever to be allowed to partake in a fitness instruction course. During the course of this study I was first introduced to weight training, and it has been the one constant in my fitness routine ever since.
My university studies were also directed towards sport and exercise, initially completing a degree in Human Movement, with specialist studies in Exercise Testing and Prescription. I followed this by studying a Graduate Diploma in Exercise for Rehabilitation. After managing a gym for 18 months my thirst for knowledge led me to embark on the four years of study required to be a physiotherapist.
Throughout my studies I have had ongoing participation in personal training, and continually learning and applying new skills in practical situations.
Primarily I am a motivator. My aim is to discover the journey's destination and to assist each person to formulate strategies to ensure they succeed. Breaking the task into small achievable steps with realisable timeframes, knowing when to provide the appropriate nudge, to hold back unbridled enthusiasm, occasionally providing the voice of reason, and sometimes, the reality check.
I believe every one needs two things to motivate them 1) something to strive for and 2) something to look forward to. In other words, the achievement of an event or outcome results in a sense of accomplishment. Rewards put the smile on our face and the spring in our step. My thoughts are that these two components work hand in hand. Battling towards an outcome without any fun along the way results in staleness. Too many rewards and we loose sight of the final destination, and the sense of achievement.
As a personal trainer I facilitate my clients achieving positive changes in their lives: impacting workplace success, interpersonal relationships, medical issues, general health, improved mood, energy and quality of life. How many other jobs can offer so much?
When you consider all the different sports at the Olympics alone, it should be possible for everyone to find some form of activity to participate in. Regular exercise participation is essential for all persons if only for stress relief and to improve quality of life. The Para-Olympics also shows how activity may be altered to suit the individual requirements and needs of the individual.
Gym-based weight training offers many bonuses:
1) Large variety of hours in the day (some gyms are accessible 24 hours!)
2) Ability to focus on specific body parts
3) A single body part may be exercised in several different ways
4) Combination of cardiovascular, strength and endurance training
5) One venue - many different goal outcomes i.e. Weight loss, rehab, muscle gain, sports specific
6) Appropriate for the ages of 16 to 100 (most gyms have a minimum age of 16 for safety reasons)
7) Appropriate for those with injuries, disabilities
Nutrition is the most frequently ignored component of the whole fitness regimen. How many times have we heard the phase "I work out so I can eat what I like?" Continual education and support is required to develop healthy eating attitudes and to move people away from always thinking that each meal should be like having " a party in your mouth." High fat, low nutritional value and highly processed foods do little to provide us with the growth, repair and energy needs.
I would strongly advise anyone serious about improving their health to purchase a calorie counter or get online and begin calculating their food intake over a 1-4 week period. Not only in calories but looking at the percent of carbohydrates, to protein, and fats. I am often horrified to see how little protein my clients are consuming. It is little wonder they're continually recovering from one illness or another, suffering sloppy muscle tone and struggling with food cravings particularly at 3 pm and 9 pm!
With the qfit Workout Plans, there is fantastic opportunity to finally achieve your health and fitness goals. It will enable each participant to learn and progress at their own pace within the time they have available.
I encourage everyone to get involved in these programs.
